Stock market today: Indian stock markets performed well on Monday’s market session. The Sensex gained 676 points, while the Nifty closed above 24800. The GST reform announcement and Trump-Putin talks are likely to affect stock markets. Maruti jumped 8%, along with Hero Motor Corp 5% and Bajaj Finance 5%, while ITC, Eternal, and Tech Mahindra closed 1% lower each.

Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended in green on Monday’s trading session. The Sensex closed 676 points, or 0.84%, higher to close at 81273, while the Nifty climbed 245 points, or 1.00%, to settle at 24876. The gap-up opening of markets helped indices to recover their positions on the top. The happy ending of stock markets over the week is likely to be expected.

The reform of GST and Trump-Putin talks surged the rally in Indian stock markets. “The current GST structure will be replaced soon with the new laws and rates by this Diwali,” PM Modi announced on 15 August 2025 in his speech. He also announced some schemes regarding increasing defense security and supporting youth entrepreneurship. The Trump and Putin meeting was also the reason behind the gap-up openings, as US tariffs affected stock markets for the last 2 weeks.

Maruti jumped 8.92% on Monday along with Hero Motor Corp (5.99%) and Nestle India (5.23%). The Ashok Leyland shares surged over 9.94% with the green ending of the auto sector. The new GST reform may reduce the taxes on cars and other vehicles, which is good news for automobile manufacturing companies.

Eternal closed 1.35% lower as it touched its 52-week high. The ITC Ltd. shares fell by 1.49%, with Tech Mahindra at 1.09%. The cigarette maker companies like ITC, Godfrey Phillips, and VST Industries faced selling pressure after the reports suggested that these companies are unlikely to get benefits from GST reform.
