Indian benchmark indices ended lower on Thursday, dragged by banking and IT stocks. Eternal, Dr Reddy’s lab, Tata motors, Tata consumer, Cipla, Grasim were the top gainers, while Nestle India, Trent, Tech Mahindra, Shriram finance, and Reliance were the top losers in today’s market.
Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty both closed lower on Thursday’s market session. BSE Sensex slipped by 542 pts or 0.66% to settle at 82,184 , while Nifty fell by 157 points or 0.63% to settle at 25,062. Indian benchmark indices fall on Thursday after performing 2 green sessions and 1 flat closed session. After the good achievement on the last day, nifty again close to its strong base at 25000.
Eternal continued to hold its position in the top gainers continuously. Eternal rose by 3% along with Dr. Reddy’s lab 1 %. Eternal created its new high at ₹ 312.45. This stock jumped 21% in the last 5 days, after its Q1 results. Tata motors, Tata consumer, also in the top gainers list.
On the other side Nestle India dropped 5% on Thursday, after its quarter one result announcement. Nestle reported net profit of ₹ 647 crore for the first quarter of FY26. This marks a 13% drop from the ₹ 747 crore net profit, reported in the first quarter of the previous financial year. This large significant number is not near to its estimated number that’s why 5% drop in shares seen on Thursday, according to experts.
Reliance still held its position in the top losers list for continuous days, even after its healthy quarter results. Tech Mahindra, Trent, Shriram finance, also joined the list.

Nestlé India, Trent, Tech Mahindra, Shriram finance, Reliance, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, Coal India, Bajaj Auto, HCL Tech, Kotak Bank, Bajaj finance, NTPC, ITC, TCS, Asian paint, UltraTech cement, Axis Bank, Mahindra and Mahindra, Hindustan Unilever.
In the sectoral indices except metal and Pharma, all the indices were also closed in red. The IT index was down by 2%, BSE midcap 0.6% and small cap index 0.4%, Nifty FMCG index 1.12% down.
