Closing bell: Sensex closed 79 higher, Nifty above 24550, market recovers in the last hour

Stock market today. Indian benchmark indices ended in green after two red trading sessions. Sensex rose 79 pts, while Nifty closed 21 pts higher. Markets recovered in the last hour after facing strong selling in the first half of the day. Hero Motor Corp shares jumped over 4.27%, Tech Mahindra 1.99%, and JSW Steel 1.94%, while Adani Enterprises slipped 2.36%, Adani Ports 1.43%, and Grasim Industries 0.86%.

Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty recovered in the last hours to close in green on Thursday’s market session. Sensex gained 79 points or 0.098% to settle at 80,623. Nifty closed 21 points or 0.089% higher to close at 24,596. A strong selling appeared during the first half due to the US trade deal, which forced Nifty to reach its low at 24344 and Sensex at 79811. But strong buying covered the markets again in the last hours. Reports of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s potential visit to India appeared to be a trigger of the late recovery of markets.

The 25% extra tariff on India is affecting Indian stock markets. 111 stocks hit their 52-week high, including Fortis Healthcare Ltd, JSW Steel, TVS Motor Company Ltd, JK Cement, Sarda Energy and Minerals, and Delhivery Ltd. On the opposite side, 161 stocks touched 52-week lows, including Indian Energy Exchange Ltd, Five Star Business Finance, Life Science Ltd, and Tejas Networks Ltd.

Hero Motocorp Ltd. jumped 4.27% along with Tech Mahindra at 1.99%. Hero Motor Corp surged over 4.27% after its Q1 results were declared on the last day. The firm reported a flat net profit of ₹ 1,126 crore for FY26 Q1. The two-wheeler’s major sector revenue declined 5.5% to ₹ 9,597 crore. JSW Steel rose 1.94% to hit its 52-week high on NSE.

On the other side, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports continued their downfall even after good quarter one results. Adani Enterprises fell by 2.36% along with Adani Ports 1.43%. Trent Ltd., which operates Zudio and Westside, fell by 0.76% even after healthy Q1 results. The firm reported 24% growth in net profit at ₹ 4,234 for FY26 Q1.

Hero Motor Corp, Tech Mahindra, JSW Steel, Eternal, Wipro, HCL Tech, Maruti, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, Tata Steel, Hindalco Industries, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Life, Coal India, TCS, UltraTech Cement, and ITC.

Top losers Nifty

Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, Grasim Industries, Hindustan Unilever, Trent, Mahindra and Mahindra, Shriram Finance, Bharti Airtel, Titan, NTPC, Tata Motors, Kotak Bank, BEL, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance Industries, ONGC, Tata Consumer, and Apollo Hospitals.

Among all sectoral indices, 2 indices closed in red, while the remaining indices ended higher on Thursday. Nifty Auto is up by 0.25%, Nifty FMCG by 0.07%, Nifty IT by 0.87%, Nifty Media by 0.99%, Nifty Pharma by 0.75%, and Nifty PSU Bank by 0.29%.
