Stock market today: Indian stock markets ended green on Monday. The Sensex gained 76 points, while the benchmark Nifty climbed 32 points. Indian benchmarks surged after the GST sweeping tax cuts, while the weak US labor data increased the expectations of Federal Reserve rate cuts. Nifty Auto performed well on Monday to close 3% higher.
Indian benchmark indices ended higher on Monday’s trading session. Both benchmarks performed well on the week’s opening session. The BSE Sensex gained 76 points, or 0.095%, to close at 80,787, while the benchmark Nifty ended 32 points, or 0.13% higher to settle at 24,773. The benchmarks are expected to perform well in the remaining days due to positive sentiments across the markets.
GST reform in 2025 boosted the Indian stock markets. The new GST rates will be applicable from 22 July 2025 on the occasion of Navratri. The revised rates are 5%, 18%, 0%, and 40%. The revised GST rates surged rally over the auto sector in India. The Nifty Auto Index closed 3.30% higher on Monday. The new 18% GST will be applicable on passenger vehicles up to 4 m in length and up to 1500 cc engines.
144 stocks hit their 52-week high on NSE, including Eicher Motor, Ashok Leyland, Maruti, JSW Steel, Mahindra and Mahindra, TVS Motors, and Tata Steel. In contrast, 50 stocks hit their 52-week low on the NSE.
Tata Motors jumped 4%, along with Mahindra and Mahindra 4.1%, Bajaj Auto 4%, Eicher Motor 3.3%, and Maruti 2.42%. The auto sector contributed to the Nifty 50 to close higher.

Among all sectoral indices, Nifty Auto climbed 3.30%, along with Nifty Media (0.05%), Nifty Metal (0.37%), PSU Bank (0.49%), and Nifty Realty (0.46%).
