Stock market today: Indian stock markets ended lower on the week’s last trading session, Friday. A strong panic selling pushed the markets to go down. Sensex and Nifty closed 765 points and 232 points lower, respectively. IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Adani Enterprises are top losers, while NTPC, Titan, and Dr. Reddy’s Lab are the top gainers.
Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty both closed in red on Friday, the week’s last trading session. The huge downfall started from the opening and continued to bring stock markets lower. The Sensex fell by 765 points, or 0.95%, to settle at 79857, while Nifty collapsed 232 points, or 0.95%, to close at 24363. Nifty breaks its strong base at 24500 and its last 3 months’ low. The downfall started as US-India trade talk uncertainty. Strong buying recovered Wednesday’s markets, but failed today.
On Wednesday US President Donald Trump announced an extra 25% tariff on India over Russian oil purchases. A total 50% tariff will be applicable if India continues its oil purchase from the Russian Federation, as per an executive order signed by Trump. The main reason behind the collapse of markets is the India-US trade deal. The announcement of 50% tariffs on India is directly affecting Indian stock markets.
Titan closed 1.49% up after its quarter one results. The firm reported 53% growth in net profits to ₹1,091 crore and 21% growth in the company’s total income for FY 26 Q1. NTPC jumped 1.59% as it won a green ammonia bid. LIC shares surged over 2.92% after the firm reported 5% growth in net profit to ₹10,987 crore for FY 26 Q1.
IndusInd Bank slid 3.32% to be in the top position in the losers list. Bharti Airtel shares fell by 3.28% as Indian Continent Investment Limited, a promoter entity group, sold a 1.2% equity stake in the company via a block deal.
