Closing Bell: Sensex closed 308 points lower, Nifty below 24700, Adani port drops 1.94%, Reliance 1.52%

Stock market today: Indian benchmark indices ended lower on Tuesday, after the last green rally on Monday. Sensex dropped 308 points while Nifty slipped 73 points. Adani Port dropped 1.94%, Reliance 1.52% and Infosys 1.38%, while Titan jumped 2.02%, IndusInd Bank 1.66%, and SBI Life 1.56%.

The Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty traded in red on Tuesday’s market session. The green rally was seen on Monday after a long time of downfall, but again the markets closed lower today. BSE Sensex dropped 308 points or 0.38% to close at 80,710, while NSE Nifty slipped 73 points or 0.30% to settle at 24,649. A strong downfall was seen in markets after the US declared a 25% tariff last Friday.

Small-cap stock Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores rallied over 6% in intraday trade on Tuesday, after the company announced that the board of directors would consider a proposal to issue bonus shares in the upcoming week, and the meeting is scheduled on Friday, 8 August 2025.

Titan and IndusInd Bank are at the top of the gainers list. Titan jumped 2.02%, while IndusInd Bank rose 1.66% on Tuesday. Titan shares were down last Friday, but from Monday it started its green rally again. Indusland Bank surged 4.10% to hit the day high of ₹ 837, after the bank’s board of directors appointed Rajiv Anand as managing director and chief executive officer.

On the other side, Swiggy dropped 3.54% and Britannia 2.54%. Adani Ports dropped 1.94% even after its healthy quarter one results. The firm reported a consolidated net profit of ₹ 3,315 crore for Q1, 6% up from 3,113 crore net profit in the year-ago period. Reliance still is  in the losers list even after good Q1 results.

Top losers

Adani Ports, Reliance Industries, Infosys, Adani Enterprises, Cipla, ICICI Bank, Eternal, Dr. Reddy’s Lab, BEL, ITC, Power Grid, Apollo Hospitals, Tata Consumer, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma, Nestle India, HDFC Bank, TCS, Hindustan Unilever, and Jio Finance.

Among all Central indices, 14 indices closed in red, while 3 ended in green. Nifty Bank was down 0.47%, Fin Nifty 0.39%, and Nifty Midcap 0.78%.
Sectoral indices: Nifty FMCG was down by 0.72%, NIFTY IT 0.48%, and Nifty Pharma 0.83%.
